The Who. What, Why of our business
What
We manage money for individuals, pension funds and our parent company, AEGON. We try to achieve the maximum return for a given level of risk, investing across the spectrum of credit quality, while following guidelines that clients may specify. It's a bit like navigating a board game, complete with rules, objectives, risk and reward.
For whom
At the end of the chain, all of our money is ultimately being invested on behalf of individuals who are saving/investing for their futures - the only differences are in the route that the money takes, e.g. whether it is someone investing £2k via their ISA, or a company's pension fund investing £50m on behalf of the beneficiaries of the pension. Real people, real money.
Why it's a challenge
Asset management attracts very bright, highly motivated people. Individuals and pension funds only want to give their money to those they believe will perform better than most or all others. It's a competitive, performance-focused market.
How we earn money
Very simply, excellent performance leads to the privilege of managing more of clients' money, leading to higher fee income.
